If something does not feel right in your relationship, you do not have to figure it out alone.
You may not be ready to leave. You may not need a place to stay. You may only want to talk to someone about what is happening.
That is okay.
Women & Children First is here to help. And you do not have to stay at our shelter to get support.
Start With a Call
The easiest first step is to call our 24-Hour Statewide Hotline at 800-332-4443.
- You do not need to know what to say.
- You do not need to know what kind of help you need.
- You do not have to make any big decisions before you call.
An advocate will listen, answer your questions and help you understand your options.
Sometimes, getting help starts with one conversation.
What Happens When You Call?
When you call Women & Children First, you can talk with someone who understands domestic violence and knows what resources are available.
You can ask questions like:
- Is what I am experiencing abuse?
- How can I stay safer?
- What if I am not ready to leave?
- What help is available for my children?
- Can someone help me with legal questions?
- What if I need somewhere safe to stay?
- What if I have a safe place to stay but still need help?
You do not have to have all the answers. We can help you take the next step that is right for you.
You Can Get Help Without Staying at the Shelter
Emergency shelter is one important service offered by Women & Children First, but it is not the only way we help.
Through WCF and the Forest of Hope Family Peace Center, you may be able to connect with services such as:
- Safety planning
- Counseling and emotional support
- Legal advocacy
- Help with protection orders
- Children’s services
- Case management
- Housing and other community resources
- Emergency shelter, if you need a safe place to stay
The Family Peace Center brings many services together in one location. That means you do not have to visit office after office trying to find the help you need.
What If You Are Not Ready to Leave?
You can still call us. You do not have to leave your relationship before asking for help.
An advocate can talk with you about what is happening and help you think about ways to stay safer. You can also learn about resources that may be helpful now or later.
The choice about what happens next is yours. You can start where you are.
What If You Need a Safe Place to Stay?
Women & Children First also provides safe emergency shelter for people leaving domestic violence.
If you need shelter, call 800-332-4443 first. An advocate can talk with you about your situation and help you understand the next steps.
If you have to leave quickly, your safety comes first. Do not worry if you cannot bring clothes, documents or other belongings with you.
We can help.
Worried About Someone You Love?
You can call us too.
It can be hard to know what to say when you are worried about a friend, family member, coworker or someone else you care about. You may want to help but be afraid of making things worse.
Our advocates can talk with you about available resources and ways to support someone safely.
You do not have to know exactly what to do before you call.
